I am a Vetaran

Anindya Das

Anindya Das, a student of grade six from Ditto Elementary School in Arlington has sent this poem to Maadhukar.com. He stays in Arlington, Texas with his parents.

I am a veteran

A long forgotten soldier
When I was young
I was called to duty
To serve my country
To bring out my inner courage
To prove to my country loyalty.

I shed blood and took bullets

But I kept on fighting

For my country.

I suffered the unbearable pain of killing

But it was for a cause
To insure my country
And my people security and peace.

Many of my brave, loyal brothers died
But not in vain
They served their part
And I served mine.
The same courage, loyalty and honesty
That flowed through my vein seventy years ago,
Still does today.

And you know what I got in return ?
Three purple hearts.
I am a veteran.
