Ram
Varma's sarkar was a worthy if somewhat
underplayed adaptation of `Godfather, but it
managed to convince most movie goers of its
positives which exceeded the negatives ,Varmas
sequel is troubled from the start where an
NRI-POSH GIRL ANITA -AISHWARIYA RAI comes up
with a multi billion doljar plan for an energy
plant in the state ,but since it will displace
40000 villagers ,the plan is being fought over
by some corrupt politicians and leaders, the
plot gets more and more confused as at least
12 different parties are vying for supremacy
and as sarkar Amitabh and his son are sincere
to the state and will only allow a development
which is beneficial to masses, the woman -NRI
girl respects and likes this trait in Abishek
,but he is married with a pregnant wife ,who
the people opposing the plant are going to fix
for good by bombing the poor wife in his car
,this clears the way for Ash and Abi to
indulge in romance but it is short-lived as
the opposers of the project have Abishek shot
as well ,leaving sarkar- Mr.Bachchan to sort
the puzzle out as to who killed whom and why .
The movie is badly scripted with the villains
very poorly developed but the flaw lies in the
motivations ,these people did not need to kill
to attain their goals ,they just needed to sit
and talk amongst them selves ,but that is a
luxury in this badly written script and
instead we have blunders galore where a twist
after twist is wasted without any
logic,Abhisek,Ash and Amitabh give amenable
performances in sketchy characters ,Ash hardly
has a role and the villains and supporting
actors are awful, the background score is a
chant of Govinda and drumming fervently with
montages of riots with burning bikes and riot
police ,all the politicians are hoodwinking
each other and in this bloody mess ,you are
surprised to see a love story between ash and
abhi, but it soon foils and then its vendetta
time .
The weird surreal camera angles and zooms are
really tasteless ,the eerie light make it look
like Chri
stmas
carol or poltergeist and the ground level
shots are disgusting with light flares
juxtaposed on facial close-ups or,the surreal
expressionist dark angles so celebrated in aag,
there
is one oppurtunity to stage a good action a
set piece where Abhi goes with 2 goons to free
an opponent ,but the fight becomes a circus
with 3 people overcoming an army with the
whole gangster den on fire and a mess which
will defy the logic this director made a
masterpiece like COMPANY .
APART
FROM THE BACHCHANS ACTING WHICH IS SERVICEABLE
,THERE IS NO JOY ,ART OR ENTERTAINMENT IN THIS
MISERABLE POLITICAL THRILLER WHICH MAKES HULLA
BOL LOOK LIKE CLASSIC ,AS FOR SARKAR THIS
DOESNT EVEN COME NEAR THAT PHENOMENA .
as
for ash she survives and it looks like she
might make a third part too -god bless them
all.
