Our Nuclear Human Life
Soumadip Bhaduri
Short Essay
Atomic Explosions emit various kinds of radioactive rays. These radiations have effect on the biosphere.
There are two kinds of radioactive reactions. The one is electromagnetic radiation. X-Rays and y - Rays stand on that class. This kind of radiation has a very short wave length and a high frequency. The other kind is Panticulate radiation. Automatic particle like electrons, protons, neutron or & - particles create this kind of radiations.
The effect of radioactivity can be divided into three classes - a) Immediate effect 2) Delayed effect c) General effect.
The third section harms animal and human life most. The affected person bears the effect to his/her next generation. The radioactive effect was first detected in 1896, one year later than innovating X-ray.
WHO said that , in animal bodies, WBC s are effected by 25-50 roentgen radiation. If the limit of radiation is in between 400-600 roentgen 50% of affected captured death. And in the case of 600-700 roentgen the affected person will certainly die between 30 days of contamination.
The delayed effect of radioactivity is a very mysterious case. Perhaps the radiation effects immediately the cell-tissues but no one can detect it without and physical analysis. But after a year's gap it seems that the person carries a secure problem, Cancer, Leukemia. An immature death occurs in delayed effect of radioactivity. But the main is genetically problem of radioactivity. In this case the amount of radiation is not the major problem, but Chromosomal effect makes
this sector incurable.
We should have to keep it in mind that all radioactive elements are not equally harmful for our life. The isotopes which have more half life period that the life period of a person are not so harmful. If a radio isotope does not radiate any radioactive rays before person's natural dearth, it is not harmful. As for example, the half life period of U235 is 710 millions year. so it is not harmful as it's half life is so long.
The effect of radioactivity depends on the radio radiations. the y-ray is the most harmful when it works from outside of human body. and alfa ray harms least. But when it reverses the effects also reverse y-rays can penetrate the human body while bita rays can trace only the cell tissues. alfa rays can penetrate almost nothing of human body.
The radioactive radiations also come form cosmos. Cosmic rays with radio active radiation also harm our normal life. As for example in UK, average rate of radio rays is 0.15 roentgen per year on a person at sea level, in which 0.035 roentgen comes from cosmic rays. In high attitude in Denuer at the same place, the radio active effect from cosmic rays is 0.05 rontgen. Here we have a statistical record in which we see the number of effected persons in Bone Cancer and Leukemia at 1047 before starting any nuclear weapons testing.
